A wedding in Surabaya
I went to Surabaya (my beloved hometown) with my mum for a cousin’s wedding. It was super fun ! I always love Surabayanese weddings, haha what’s with the emphasis?
Surabayanese are notoriously tacky – like me :p – and it’s reflected on events like weddings . We love all things shiny, bright clashing colours, fancy celebrations, blings. According to Surabayanese’ philosophy, weddings are the time to pull out all stops and entertain, entertain , entertain. Very different approach to the weddings in Jakarta or West Java, where people spend lots of money on flowers, venue, dress and photography but often neglected the entertainment factor. In Jakarta going to weddings often means : hand in envelope, congratulate the bride and groom, eat a bit and leave. And in many cases : you hand in envelope, congratulate, anddd…ran out to another wedding in town !
Nowadays, weddings in Surabaya are much ‘tamer’ though, Surabayanese were 100x crazier during my childhood days. There’d be singers singing with full clothing and then slowly stripping into nothing but tiny bikini , mind you, the weddings were not held in stripper’s joint but in respectable Chinese restaurants. Of course… there were children in attendance ^^. But I loved those weddings, they were fun, the food was great, and I got to hop on stage and sang along with the pretty singers !

Now… in 2011 , it was Ariany and Anthony’s wedding . Actually they’re already married for more than a year, but they waited for the right time for the fancy Surabayanese reception:

The happy couple is now living in Australia. Hmm… I wonder if Anthony’s parents were shocked.
My own wedding wasn’t held in Surabaya, and Hubby’s family is very classy. I remembered when the decorator showed us a very bling-bling red decor , my mum-in-law went , ” Oh gosh no… that’s so Chinese !” .
Yet in the end, I managed to trash it up a bit and infuse some Surabaya flavour to it muahahaha ^_^.
Helping Let’s Adopt Indonesia
Stop buying expensive designer pets from the pet shops or breeders!
If you have an extra space at home for furry friends, adopt them from Let’s Adopt Indonesia or similar organization like Pondok Pengayom Satwa.
Let’s Adopt Indonesia’s page is on my Facebook so I get regular updates on how Indonesians mistreat strays and abandon their pets.

1. Jade – Pekinese
Jade came from a seriously unethical puppy mill. Her role was to breed cute pekinese puppies so they can sell them for profit. Once she’s old and lame, they threw her out on the street. She’s weak, old and half blind ! How long do you think she’d survive on the harsh streets of Jakarta !? Lucky for her, she was discovered and currently stayed at one of Let’s Adopt Indonesia foster home.
2. Allegro – the scalded kitten
Allegro was found sleeping under the hot sun all by himself, in fact he didn’t care about everything because he was feverish from his wound infection. Yepp…someone had carelessly threw hot water or hot oil on this poor kitten. He’s currently staying at foster home and is on his way to recovery !
3. Tulip
Tulip was a stray puppy found living around this abandoned area:

I’m so glad that she finally finds a forever home
So please give them a second chance at life ! If you can’t do so, at least spread the news or donate. Oh.. and to crazy unethical breeders, please go to hell.

Kecewa dengan Taksi Primajasa !
Posting berikut saya kirimkan juga di Surat Pembaca Detik.com, semoga segera ditindaklanjuti .
Hari Senin tanggal 14 November 2011 sekitar pukul 20.00 saya mencari taksi di Bandara Soekarno Hatta. Yang tampak available saat itu adalah taksi Primajasa, tanpa pikir panjang – karena selama ini saya percaya akan kualitas taksi resmi Bandara, saya langsung menghampiri.Petugas taksi Primajasa menanyakan tujuan saya kemudian bertanya “Pakai argo atau tidak?” .
Perasaan saya mulai tidak enak, saya jawab, “Pakai argo dong !”. Kemudian dia berusaha membantah saya, saya tetap ngotot dan akhirnya dia tampak meng’iya’kan. Karena lelah , saya masuk saja.
Di tengah jalan, saya kembali merasa tak enak, karena saya tidak diberi complaint card yang juga berisi catatan surcharge yang harus saya bayar. Saya lihat complaint card itu ada, namun dipegang sopir. Saat saya melirik argometer,saya makin curiga karena argometer ditutup dengan selembar kertas. Benar saja, argo ternyata tidak dinyalakan ! Adu bantah pun terjadi, karena sopir mengatakan saya telah menyetujui biaya sebesar Rp 120.000 untuk perjalanan dari bandara ke Latumeten Grogol ! Kemudian sopir juga menyalahkan saya karena tidak jelas memberikan instruksi.
Pada akhirnya saya hanya membayar Rp 100.000 dan menghindari beradu bantah lebih lanjut. Nomor Taksi Primajasa yang tidak bertanggungjawab ini adalah A623, sayangnya saya tidak sempat mencatat nama sopir.
Saya sungguh sangat kecewa atas apa yang terjadi. Tidak hanya sopir, namun juga petugas Primajasa di Bandara juga sama tidak bertanggungjawabnya. Saya harap Primajasa segera melakukan perbaikan atas kinerjanya sebelum seluruh pelanggan menghindari menggunakan taksi ini.
Kandungan Gula Nescafe Coffee Cream
Saya lumayan doyan dengan Nescafe Coffee Cream (UHT 200 ml), tetapi karena rasanya manis banget, saya jadi kepengen tahu, berapa sebetulnya kandungan gula di dalamnya. Setelah puter-puter kotak atas-bawah-kiri-kanan , lho… kok nggak ada nutritional facts-nya ya ? Saking ingin tahunya, saya melayangkan sepucuk email ke Sahabat Nestle.

Very interesting Although to be honest, I’m more distracted at home because of all the house-wifey chores : wash dishes, peel and cut mangoes for hubby, etc. So when I’m extremely busy at work, I’d rather be the bad wife altogether and come home late.

Just Do It !
I found that Nike’s ever famous tagline “Just do it!” very useful especially when I’m facing an extremely tight deadline. A very hurried client wants a quick prototype for “proof of concept” session and I have nothing to prove yet…. haha -_-” I’m so doomed.
I better get back to work now, and yea.. since “do it” sounds like “duit“(money) , it’s important to remember that I’m doing all this for the duit !
Just duit !

Pointless stuff sold on Facebook
There are two types of Indonesian (or Malaysian) Facebookers : the one trying to sell stuff, and the one who genuinely uses Facebook for its intended purpose.
Since I’m so gullible and nice, I accept both as friends on Facebook. So what happened ? The annoying sellers began to tag me.
I got all excited when I see “So and so added a photo of you” .
Only to discover that the so-called photo of mine is…. something like this:
Whooaa… pretty ! But that’s not my picture !
And underneath the picture there’d be some information on material (chiffon or whatever), size and price ! Rawwrrr !! And not always clothing items, sometimes they tagged me on bags, wallets, watches, or whatever. Eventually when a visitor viewed my Facebook profile, they can’t even figure out which one is me ! Am I a bag, shirt, watch , or a Shaun the Sheep lookalike ?
Finally I wrote a message to every sellers on my Facebook friends list , ” DO NOT TAG ME OR I WILL NEVER BUY YOUR PRODUCT ! EVER !
From then on, no sellers dare to tag me, because if they do, I will remove them ASAP.
Anyway, I do find the items they sell amusing at times. It’s like a whole new world of shopping where you can discover crazy products you’ll never know existed . Some of them are utterly pointless, but still funny nonetheless.
Here are some examples:
1. Hello Kitty Dispenser
While it’s adorable and pink, I don’t quite see the point on using a dispenser for that amount of water. I’d rather buy a bottle.
2. Nose Clip
HAHAHAHA ! A friend of mine said that this actually works if you start young enough. This tool sells like hotcakes by the way, thanks to Indonesians’ obsession on getting a sharp and high nose. Selling at Rp 25,000 (USD 2.5) , this is a much affordable option compared to plastic surgery.
3. Banana Slicer
My cousin sells this, when I saw it, my immediate comment to her was , “Can’t you use a spoon or something ?”
Her answer, “Yes, but you won’t get the exact same neat cut everytime !” Haha…nice try !
4. Fake Orthodontic Braces
WHY ??
Btw this is also very dangerous because kids ‘wire’ the braces on their teeth themselves -.-
5. Pink Lip and Nipple
AHAHAHAA ! WTF
6. And this is the craziest one of all : CRYSTAL X
The seller’s claim (loosely translated from Bahasa Indonesia):
” Crystal X returns vagina’s elasticity, adding sensitivity, kills bacteria, prevents cancer and giving your vagina that extra grip, your husband will love it (?). To use, wet crystal X and swirl it around your private part 10 times. Use everyday after shower or before / after love making sessions”
Price ? Sometimes Rp 200,000.00 another times it’s Rp 160,000

Fun Tunes Time – Pejantan Tangguh
Old song (2004) from Sheila on 7, but the music video never fails to make me laugh . It’s Bruce Lee meets Karate Kid meets Wiro Sableng. I find it amusing that they chose the word “pejantan” (male for animals, etc) instead of “pria” (man) .
