Watched this movie on DVD while hubby was dyeing my hair haha ^^ ! This very old movie(1996) is the sequel of Chinese Odyssey titled “Cinderella”. The story has nothing to do with Cinderella though, it’s more like a very messed up interpretation of the famous “Journey to the West” legend. Stephen Chow became Sun Gokong who was suffering from identity crisis. And Law Kar Ying became the legendary monk Tong Sam Cong who was portrayed as highly highly annoying in this movie. So annoying that even the compassionate Goddess of Mercy almost lost her patience. Haha, only Stephen Chow can ever did such thing..
Found on Youtube the scene when the venerable Tong Sam Cong tried to persuade the Monkey King – who had forgotten his real identity – to accompany him to go to India to pick up Buddhists scriptures:
Want to sing along?

Translation:
Only You can take me to the west
Only You can kill monsters & ghosts
Only You can protect me
No more afraid of being eaten
Only you’re so tough
And that’s Only You

Don’t blame sifu so talkative
Don’t fear death or be scared
