Surviving syaraf kejepit a.k.a herniated disc!

Nov 20 2009

The whole ordeal began last Monday. After work, I went to the usual Busway terminal to get the ticket. I was told that there will be no buses for at least an hour due to flood in certain parts of Jakarta. So I decided to walk around Pondok Indah Mall and have dinner. An hour later, I went to the terminal again and they told me that, my bus won’t be there yettt !! I was annoyed and suddenly I saw a sharp pinch on my lower back. I ignored it and waited for the bus anyway. The pain worsen and by the time I got home, it was excruciating. At night, I couldn’t sleep at all, and I actually almost cried because I felt that my right thigh numbed.

On Tuesday, I went to work despite all the pain and decided to go to the doctor. Then I realised that it was definitely herniated disc or what Indonesians called as syaraf kejepit. I decided to go for chiropractic treatments instead of seeing a neurologist or orthopedics because I’m terrified of painful injections and surgery. I contacted Citylife Chiropractic clinic in Wisma Metropolitan and booked an appointment. After the first session, I felt better although I was still miserable. And after my second chiropractic session yesterday, I can now survive without my painkiller :) . Still a loooongg road to complete recovery though, I have to go to the clinic thrice a week :( . But yes, at least I can sleep peacefully now.

Other things that helped me survive this evil incident:
1. Ponstan – The Ultimate pain killer
ponstanmefenamic
2. Flexall and Shu Jin Lu – The Cooling Aid
They both help in reducing pain and cooling the area. Shu Jin Lu is better but you will smell like a Chinese drug store after using it.

Note: In Indonesia Shu Jin Lu comes in brown colored packaging.

3. I took herbal medicine called “Lelap” to help me sleep. Strangely it did help. Fearing of addiction, I have stopped taking it.
4. Hubby ! ^^ I assured him that I was fine and that he doesn’t have to come to Jakarta, but I know he was very worried.

Now I’m still prohibited from carrying heavy stuffs on my back, so my laptop has to rest. Did I mention that my laptop’s screen is kinda sick too ?? What a week!!
